Privacy Policy

Last updated September 19, 2003

By accessing or using this website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, you must not access or use the site. We reserve the right to change the Privacy Policy from time to time at our sole discretion. We will give notice of any such changes on this website. Your use of this site will be subject to the Privacy Policy that is current at the time of such use.

We may use Personally Identifiable Information (your name, e-mail address, and other details entered by you on this site) subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

PLEASE NOTE: We never sell, lease, rent, loan or give away any information collected by us, including your e-mail address.

A valid email address is required as part of each petition signature. This email address is used to privately confirm signatures. It is not added to any mailing list at us, and it is not sold to third parties.

This site contains links to other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.

Information Collected
We collect Personally Identifiable Information from you, including your name, email address, country of residence and in some cases additional information that you enter on this website.

No financial information is requested or collected by any of the systems or petitions operated by this service, including but not limited to credit card numbers, social security numbers and bank account information.

Like most web sites, this website also collects information automatically and through the use of electronic tools that may be transparent to our visitors. For example, we may use cookie technology to recognize you and hold information from your visit. Among other things, the cookie may store your user name and e-mail address, sparing you from having to reenter that information each time you visit. Our systems automatically record users’ IP addresses and domain names.

How we gather information
How we collect and store information depends on the part of the website that you are visiting, the activities in which you elect to participate and the services that we provide. For example, you may be asked to provide information when you sign a petition, register for access to certain portions of one of our sites or request certain features, such as newsletters, news updates, or when you make a donation. You may provide information when you participate in voting and polling activities, online activism or advocacy efforts, and other interactive areas of this website.

How Collected Information Is Used
The email address that you provide is confirmed by sending a confirmation email message to the indicated email address.

Unconfirmed signatures are periodically deleted from the system.

Petition signatures are registered only when a response is received to the confirmation email. Responding to the confirmation email causes the system to register the petition signature in its permanent database.

What we do with the information we collect
Aggregated Information (information that does not personally identify you) may be used in many ways. For example, we may combine information about your usage patterns with similar information obtained from other users to help enhance our site and services (e.g., to learn which pages are visited most or what features are most attractive).

We recognize and appreciate the importance of responsible use of information collected on this site. For this reason, and subject to your prior consent, we may contact you from time to time about important issues in which we are involved. In each communication you receive from us, you are given the opportunity to opt out by using an unsubscribe function provided within each message.

We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our Web site. Your IP address is used to gather broad demographic information.

Retention And Disclosure of Submitted Information
The information that you submit to us will be kept at least until the petition to which it relates is withdrawn, replaced or has expired. Your information may be retained for an undetermined further period of time.

If you give consent for the system to send you emails, for example by joining a mailing list on this website, we may send you further emails.

The information you submit, and that which is logged by the system, may be disclosed to third parties, either intentionally or unintentionally, if we have a need to do so to investigate a problem with the system or software, to determine the origin of any attack launched against the service or the firm(s) providing the services upon which it depends, or in response to a query from a bona-fide law enforcement agency. The information you submit may also be disclosed due to either system malfunction or intentional penetration by malicious individuals. No warranty or claim of security is made for the database systems used in this application.

Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Site logs are maintained in secure server areas accessible only to specially qualified technical staff.

Children
The Campaign does not knowingly collect or solicit Personally Identifiable Information from or about children under 13 except as permitted by law. If we discover that we have received any information from a child under 13 in violation of this policy, we will delete that information immediately. If you believe that we have any information from or about anyone under 13, please contact us at the address listed below.
